…on the 9th Henry left for High Wycombe Headquarters of Bomber Command West of London at near Marlow on the River Thames – A beautiful spot where “Butch” Harris – i/c Bomber Command reigned supreme. Henry had been asked to go there by Tony Willis – who had been on 460 and was now at High Wycombe as a Sqd Leader and in charge of the Australian Section. When he arrived he wrote me a short letter commencing, “Dear Heart”, which I have always kept. He had access to Oxford planes at a nearby small Airfield. So on February 6th Henry flew up to Binbrook and left again the next day. The Station and Squadron was still operational and we were still loosing crews. I remember dancing with a guy F/Ldr Johnny Holmes in the mess one night and he was “gone” the next. In early March…
